1. How does your product use or challenge conventions AND how does it represent social groups or issues?
Our product, Zephyrhills, challenges the conventions by making a way different view in the commercial compared to casual things in an everyday-Zephyrhills-commercial. For the issue side of the commercial, It was made to look as if the Zephyrhills water was the better choice for people to drink for water unlike other sources, like the Dasani used. The first convention used was the starting point, in which Max, the actor, was jogging and was getting exhausted to the point that he needed hydration. This convention was to represent the athletes and how they always need a source of hydration, typically water, in order to maintain their composure and energy. The hot and bright sun was also part of mis-en-scene to give the color effect to the viewer and how the runner was at a heated jog. A set that we had used was the trash bin, placed to a point where the actor, Max, was able to spike his Dasani water into the trash bin with force. Our general audience was for basically everyone to see and to pick our water over others.
2. How does your product engage with audiences AND how would it be distributed as a real media text?
Our product engages with the audience by describing a story being told by a different person and how they were able to start to enjoy water better. In the commercial, the actor was full of exhaustion and had reached to get his Dasani water, but once he had drink it, he showed emotion of disgust about how the Dasani had tasted, being so bad to be thrown into a garbage bin. In another scene, the audience was supposed to get an “heavenly” feel when shown the “God” scene with the “heavenly water”, which was the Zephyrhills. The audience is supposed to feel as if Dasani is a horrible-tasting water and should rather buy the much more refreshing water, Zephyrhills. If this was distributed in media, then it would act like a YouTube video that could be an example of a Rivalry commercial that Zephyrhills could use against Dasani when trying to get more people to buy their water.
3. How did your production skills develop throughout this project?
My production skills were able to drastically increase from this project. My filming positions were able to be on point when producing the scenes that our group did. Sure I did some mistakes but I was able to get the right scene in around 3 tries. The angle, the lighting, the audio, all these things have to be thought of when producing a scene and how each are seen together bundle in that one clip. There were also scenes in which I had only one take and that was it, I wouldn’t be able to get another chance if I would mess it up. I was able to be constant in filming scenes that took all my attention and took only one chance.
4. How did you integrate technologies – software, hardware and online – in this project?
I was able to add software from technology online into the commercial by adding many effects and backgrounds to most scenes. In some scenes, some audio issues were present and so, I was able to use a video editor and fix some background audio and also increase the voice of some of the actors. I was also able to add background music that would flow through the commercial and even special music such as the Halo theme in which specific scenes contained. There were many sound effects as well that had shown impact on how the product was being viewed. Even some of the scenes had background edits made to make the visuals look more creative and colorful.
