1. How many titles are displayed during the opening sequences to the film? Which ones? In the beginning of the Mission Impossible – Fallout sequence, the company associated with the movie is credited along with the producers. It is then followed up by the production team, with Tom Cruise having a huge role in production. Afterwards, we are then showed the actors who are apart of this making of the film. These people include: Tom Cruise, Henry Cavill, Ving Rhames, Simon Pecc, Rebecca Ferguson, and more. After all the actors were shown, the final title given was the name of the movie itself, “Mission Impossible – Fallout". What connotations do the images carry? From the beginning of the sequence, the movie gives the connotation that this environment is big and popular based on the establishing shot and will be packed with action based on the following scenes presented. Throughout the next scenes, the protagonist is then tracked through the shot and shows him quickly moving throughout each scene, whether it were him fighting or him accelerating rapidly through a motorcycle. Following that, the other scenes generated are full of explosions and drama between characters, related to the plot where their mission is to escape and defend themselves from the antagonist group. We are then shown the other scenes where the support/side characters have their own issues, whether it’d be dangerous acts such as jumping off buildings, or sly interaction with others around them. We are provided with many different environments full of explosions and fast paced motion, and then ending off the sequence in a fiery title drop. How is genre reinforced through symbolic and technical codes from the outset? (Can you tell what genre the film is)

   The opening greatly represents the genre and it’s whole premise thoroughly. The sequence starts off with the establishing shot with fire all around and also the main character immediately packing punches to the enemies. The motorcycle prop is a great symbol of action, it provides fast-paced movement through acceleration. The fire everywhere throughout each scene is also a symbol, representing the extreme setting of the movie. The other characters add up to this by doing actions such as explosions, firing shots, extreme parkour, and speeding. The end of the sequence with the title is a great way to end the sequence, showing off how “fire-ry” and action packed and total destruction this movie provides. What conventions are used to ensure the film appeals to its target audience? The opening sequence has a good amount of different conventions provided to appeal audience. The first we have is the editing techniques, each scene containing fire constantly and the graphical effects such as the explosions provide loud destruction for viewers. There's also the fact that there are different camera angles, such as tracking shot of the main character when doing parkour, and long shot with a gun firing occurring between two separate parties, these camera angles used throughout each scene. The sounds of the sequence are pretty loud, full of weaponry noises and motor noise to represent speed. Can’t forget about each scene cutting away in between action and movement, making viewers hungry to see what would happen next.
